The bus ride back from “the A.T.L.” was a little sweeter for the West Pines United F.C. Girls 00/01 Black as they brought the title of the prestigious Atlanta Cup back with them.

The Girls of the Black and Gold were challenged throughout group play going 2-0 during the first day of the tournament, with wins against Ponte Vedra Storm (1-0) and Cherokee Impact Gold, GA (5-0).  With a stifling defense and great possession the girls began the first tournament of the season on a high note. Having secured their spot in the semi-finals, the team continued its great possession play and defense on the second day, but failed to capitalize on multiple chances at goal, resulting in a 2-1 loss to Brentwood Premier (TN).

The girls continued their run to the championship with a hard fought semi-final match against previously undefeated First Coast Academy (2-0).  On Championship Monday, the Girls of the Black and Gold once again faced Brentwood 00’ Premier.  After first half adjustments, West Pines ran out to a 2-0 half-time lead with clinical finishes by Taylor Dobles and Maya Gordon.  In the second half, Chloe Laureano would strike with a power shot from outside the 18 yard box for a 3-1 score line.  Brentwood never gave up and fought back to draw the match before the regular time expired.  With the heart of a Champion,  the team took control during overtime, and struck back only minutes into extra time.  Taylor Dobles streaked down the right touchline and buried the game winner -- upper 90!

Congratulations to WPU Black 00/01 – Atlanta Cup Champions!!
