PEMBROKE PINES, FLORIDA – West Pines United FC has accomplished a rare double feat this season in the USL Super Y-League Southeast Division. Both their U13 boys and girls concluded their respective seasons with perfect 12-0 records.
The two teams combined to score a staggering amount of goals. The boys netted 68 while the girls found the back of the net 53 times to bring their total to 121. On the other side of the ball, the teams’ defenses both allowed fewer than 10 goals. The girls gave up an average of 0.75 goals per match while the boys allowed just 0.50 per game.
“Our U13 season has been filled with success, winning the Florida State Cup, participating in the Dallas Cup and having some of our players being selected into the US National Team Pool,” said Richard Jobson, Head Coach of the U13 boys. “Having some positive results at the North American Finals would be the final icing on our cake and a great way to end our season.”
Surprisingly, the 5-4-0 Florida Rush gave the U13 boys from West Pines United their toughest match of the season. They played to a 2-1 final on Saturday, August 22. That was the only match all season decided by a single goal.
West Pines girls did not come that close to a loss. Twice this season, once against Schulz Academy (2-0) and a second time when facing Kendall SC (3-1), the girls escaped with a two-goal margin of victory. With over 35 of their players being selected into the FYSA ODP Program, both the boys and girls are full of confidence heading into Super Y-League North American Finals.
“This Super Y-League season has been a tremendous learning experience for our side,” said U13 Girls Head Coach and West Pines United President Todd Goodman. “As a unit, we are anxiously awaiting the opportunity to put forth our best effort collectively to compete against some of the most elite teams in the country at the North American Finals.”
