WPU Sends 2 Teams To 2009 Florida State Cup - FINAL FOUR
WPU's U13 boys & U13 girls advance to State Championships

 

 

 

 

        West Pines United’s U13 Boys & U13 Girls have advanced to the Florida State Cup Final Four to be held over the weekend of May 16/17, 2009 in Wellington. These two talented teams have taken similar, yet different paths on their respective quests to hoist the covented state championship trophy.  West Pines United Black, coached by Richard Jobson, the #1 team in the nation, fresh off their impressive participation in the prestigious Dallas Cup, saw their first round of State Cup held in Tampa. The consensus pre-tournament favorites first round of play was a group qualifying format which saw them win their group with victories over Clearwater 1-0, Largo United 5-0 & FC America 5-0. The Round of Sixteen in which  the format changed to single elimination & was held in Hialeah, saw West Pines victorious against SAA Real Madrid 3-0 which setup their Quarterfinal match versus Fla Soccer Alliance with the winner moving on to the Final Four. West Pines advanced with a 3-1 victory.  

 

        West Pines United FC 95/96, coached by Todd Goodman, the #3 team in the State of Florida, saw their first round of State Cup held in Naples. The consenus pre-tournament favorites to reach the Final Four first round of play was a group qualifying format which saw them win their group with victories over Indialantic 4-0, Team Boca 2-0 & a scoreless 0-0 draw against Hillsboro County United (HCU). The Round of Sixteen in which the format also changed to single elimination & was also held in Hialeah, saw West Pines victorious against Melbourne Tsunami by the scoreline of 6-0 which setup their Quarterfinal match versus Braden River with the winner moving on to the Final Four. After a scoreless regulation game as well as two overtime periods, West Pines advanced after being victorious in a thrilling penalty kick shootout.
