PEMBROKE PINES, FL — Second-year USL Super Y-League Club West Pines United, who posted a 29-19-5 record in their first season of competition, will field nine teams in the league’s Southeast Division. Up from the five age groups, four of which were girls teams that the club competed in during the 2008 season, West Pines will enter a full slate of boy’s teams as well as a USL Super-20 League side this year.

"The Super Y-League provides our club with yet another opportunity to showcase our abundance of talent while exposing our players to a higher level of play,” said West Pines United FC President Todd Goodman.

The Pembroke Pines based club earned recognition as the 10th best girl’s academy in the Super Y-League last season, scoring a 70.7 in the Super Y-League’s First 11 Ranking system in their first season. Their best team was their U13 girls, who finished second in the division behind Schulz Academy with a record of 10-3-0. Schulz went on to finish second in North America, falling only to the CASL RailHawks in the U13 girls final.

“Last year being our initial venture into the league, our five teams performed quite admirably, as evidenced by us being named to the Super Y-League First 11 Club Ranking System,” said Goodman. “We look forward to competing in the upcoming 2009 SYL season as well as another team participating in USL’s Super-20 League.”

Individually, West Pines had five players named to the Super Y-League ODP National Camps, including: Sarah Granda, Camila Ardila, Kiana Clark, Nicole Harris and Gabriella Sosa. Sosa, a midfielder, was selected as one of the top 16 players in the ‘94/’95 age group and  was named to the 2009 SYL Select Team.

On the boy’s side, two of West Pines players, Stefan Jerome and Zachery Herold were named to US Soccer’s Under-17 Residency Program following the 2008 Super Y-League regular season.

“With Stefan and Zachery already part of the U.S. U-17 Residency Program, and a handful of our other players being selected to the National Team Pools of their respective age groups, we as a club strive to afford our players with all the necessary resources to realize their full potential,” said Goodman.
